Does Channel Energy Heal Temporary Hit Points?
Does Channel Energy Heal Temporary Hit Points?
In Pathfinder, the ability to channel energy is a class feature that allows a character to heal or harm creatures within 30 feet. The character expends one use of this ability to use one of the following two options: Option 1: The character can choose to heal living creatures with positive energy, restoring a number of hit points equal to 1d6+1 per level the character possesses. Option 2: The character can choose to deal damage to undead creatures with negative energy, dealing a number of points of damage equal to 1d6+1 per level the character possesses. But what about temporary hit points? Can channeling energy heal those as well? The answer is no. Channel energy cannot heal temporary hit points. Only hit points can be healed by channel energy (or any other means, for that matter). That said, there are ways to get around this limitation. The first is to simply not use temporary hit points in the first place. If your party is taking enough damage that you're constantly having to rely on temporary hit points to stay alive, then you're likely doing something wrong. Temporary hit points are meant to be just that: temporary. They're not meant to be used as a crutch or a safety net.
